| Professional Biosketch: |
Dr. Fackler’s interest in medical informatics began in 1990 when designing a clinical trial for ARDS, he was dismayed at the variability of treatment within “standard” ventilator management. From that frustration came a computer controlled algorithm for closed-loop control of PEEP and FIO2. With a colleague, he founded the Children’s Hospital (Boston) Informatics Program. Within the Program, he helped establish the use of the internet for movement of medical information. More broadly, Dr. Fackler’s research and interest lies in the introduction and maintenance of knowledge based automation in critical care and electronic medical record systems. Dr. Fackler is a member of the American Association of Artificial Intelligence, the American Medical Informatics Association, and the Society for Critical Care Medicine where he is a Member and Chairman of Electronic Communication Committee. Dr. Fackler is the Secretary of the non-profit organization, the Institute for Medical Knowledge Implementation. He also has a US Patent Application for “Smart Plug, a universal medial device interface.” |
